Betting pools a safer bet for Super Bowl this year (The Union Democrat)

Sports fans who want to put a bit of money where their mouths are can do so for the price of a traffic ticket instead of jail this Super Bowl weekend. A change in California law that took effect Jan. 1 reduced home and office betting pools clocking in at less than $2,500 to an infraction. Before that, violators could have been charged with either a misdemeanor or felony.
